Answer: Yes, you can safely use glass marbles in a fire pit. Glass marbles or fire pit glasses are an excellent way to make your fire pit look beautiful, especially since the glass is available in a wide range of sizes and colors.

fire glass marbles are a great way to replace those traditional unsightly items such as ceramic logs and lava rocks you would use in a fire pit. These tend to be drab in color and also collect soot if burnt for hours.

Fire glass marbles are a filler for a fireplace or firepit. Its main purpose is for decoration only and will not become fuel to the fire.

The best thing about fire glass marbles is that they are very versatile. They don’t just need to be used in a fire pit or fireplace. These marbles are a brilliant addition to your home..

Why should you use glass marbles?

Fire glass marbles are a great way to replace those traditional unsightly items such as ceramic logs and lava rocks you would use in a fire pit. These tend to be drab in color and also collect soot if burnt for hours.

Fire glass marbles are a filler for a fireplace or firepit, they are truly a luxurious and dramatic statement. They are extremely cost effective and durable. There are a couple issues with glass marbles, so let me tell you about those.

  • Not great for wood fire pits:

Wood firepits can be quite messy and require cleaning after ever or every other usage. With the cleaning of the fire pit, it would also come with the cleaning of the marble. Not the best idea!

  • Not great for deep fire pits:

Deep fire pits with glass marbles filled to the top would take a men's powerlifting team to move around the yard. Instead the hack I use for my deep propane fire pit is lava rock.

    • TIP:  I recommend you try  out black Lava Rock. These are available in a pack of 20-pound and sizes that range between  ½ to one-inch thick. These lava rocks are ideal for outdoor as well as indoor use and can be used with propane or natural gas.

Once the bottommost portion of the pit is filled up, then add your marbles. This will save you quite a bit of money.

Are glass marbles expensive?

There is thankfully no shortage of fire glass marbles on the market, have great quality, and are available in a wide array of color choices.

Available in a 10-pound and 20-pound size,  and they typically ship for free from most providers. Glass marbles are available in 25 different color options  (E.g.: blue, green, amber, aqua, black, and clear) These marbles are ideal for indoor use, too, and can be used with natural gas or propane fires.

How Long will Fire Glass Marbles Last?

The duration of how long the fire glass marbles will last entirely depends on how it is treated.

If they are taken care of properly, the marbles will last for a long time in the fire pit. The way these marbles are made ensures that they can hold up to those high temperatures.

You may start see some sort of cracking or changes in the marble’s color over time. If you don't replace them for a long time, the propane may end up causing the fire glass marbles to break and for its color to turn black as well.

Sometimes if you are using a light colored marble, they can start to discolor at an increased rate; from what I've found.

I would  opt for darker colors for first time buying  (E.g blue, dark green, black, red, and the like to hide this discoloration)

    • Tip: Glass marbles make a fantastic addition to any landscape. Their dramatic colors will impress all your guests, and there are multiple ways you can make use of them. While these are primarily created to be used in a fire pit, you can also use it in other areas of your home, such as walkways and around plants.
